Shawn Benjamin has been principal at LPS Richmond for 10 years. She first did a principal residency at LPS Richmond 12 years ago as a New Leaders michelle obama graduate thesis New School resident. A in Psychology and Sociology from the University of California at Berkeley and a Masters in Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania as well as the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Katherine Hendrickson began her career at the Denver School of Science and Technology in Denver, Colorado as an 11th grade Spanish teacher. Over the next five years there, she went on to teach Introductory and AP Psychology, World History, US History, and AP US History. She has served as a network content lead for DSST Public Schools, a Department Chair, and Mentor Teacher. She earned her BA in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, an MA in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Colorado – Denver, and an MA in Education Policy from Stanford University. Hendrickson loves reading, yoga, climbing mountains, and storytelling.

She’s thrilled to join the LPS – Richmond team as an Academic Dean. Lauren Peterson is excited to join the tremendously talented staff at LPS Richmond as the Lower School Academic Dean. Lauren was born in New Jersey, but grew up outside London and attended an international school from grades 2-12. This is where her love of traveling and exploring new cultures began. She started her career in Dallas, TX where she worked as the founding English teacher at a new school in Dallas Independent School District. Peterson earned her BA in Psychology and Hispanic Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and her MA in Policy, Organization, and Leadership Studies from Stanford University. Peterson isn’t at school, she enjoys exploring the Bay Area, traveling, hip hop dancing, scrapbooking, and spending time outside with her fiance Luke and dog Kenda.

Pany Jraige has been working at LPS Richmond for the past seven years. In that time she has worked closely with teachers and students in every grade level and most subjects. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Scripps College in Cultural Anthropology. Then she went on to earn a Master’s degree in Education at Loyola Marymount University and a Master’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Virginia. When she is not at school, Mrs. Jraige spends her time playing and exploring with her two boys, Isaac and Theo. Estefany Cortez is a First-Generation college graduate from UC Davis, Class of 2017, where she received a BS in Human Development.

Although she was born in Michoacan, Mexico she was raised in Richmond, CA and considers Richmond her home. As a Math Lab teacher she hopes to support her students who find math challenging and make them feel successful and supported at all times. She has also previously worked with the RSP department at LPS as a 1:1 aide. She hopes to get her Master’s in the near future in Education. Cortez likes to dance, play soccer and participate in craft activities such as coloring and DIY’s. Isis Espinosa is a Student Ally for 12th grade students and an Academic Support Teacher for English and Government at LPS Richmond.

Before working at LPS Richmond, Ms. Espinosa was an after school program teacher and program associate. She majored in English and minored in Social Justice and Education at Simmons College in Boston. I graduated from LPS-Richmond in 2013 and went on to UC Davis, where I doubled majored in Sociology with an emphasis in Social Services and Chicano Studies with an emphasis in Social Policy.

At LPS-Richmond, I’ve been working as an instructional aide in the RSP department ever since. Gutierrez is a LPS-Richmond alumni who grew-up in Richmond and is very excited to be able to serve her community. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley in Sociology with a minor in Spanish. After working for a year in the main office at LPS, she decided to go back to school. She earned her Master’s degree from Cal State East Bay in Social Work with a focus on Children, Youth and Families. She is currently trying to master her cooking skills, but some of her other hobbies include traveling, having fun and reading.
